Club fitting vs. used clubs – is it worth it?
Both can be worthwhile – often the combination is most effective: A fitting provides measurements, profile & feel, And with this knowledge, you can specifically find used rackets that perfectly suit your game. This way you benefit from performance and a strong price/value ratio – all without specific price information in the article.

Direct comparison: What's the best way for you to start?
| criterion | Club fitting | Used rackets |
|---|---|---|
| Accuracy | Very high: Specifications (length, lie, grip size, weight, flex, profile) matching your swing. | High to very high: If you search specifically using fitting data – otherwise it's "trial and error". |
| Speed to a solution | Quick: Measurement → clear recommendation → fine-tuning. | Fast to medium: very efficient with a clear checklist/specs, otherwise more comparison is needed. |
| Customizability | Maximum (shaft, handle, loft/lie, hosel/weights). | High: Handle/Loft/Lie often adjustable; Re-Shaft possible – check workshop/compatibility. |
| Price/value ratio | Very good if it significantly stabilizes your game – the investment is targeted. | Very good if the condition and specifications are right – “more rackets” for the budget. |
| Risk of mismatch | Low – Data-driven. | Moderate – drops significantly when you use fitting data. |
Which option best suits your scenario?
- Newcomers/returning cyclists: First basic fitting (handle size, length, general flex tendency) → then specifically test used sets.
- Advanced with clear goals: Fitting for bend profile/balance & loft/lie fine-tuning → search for suitable used models .
- Upgrading from old setup: If heads fit, consider re-shaft/grips ; otherwise, try out a suitable used model .
Practical plan: 3 steps to the right solution
- Analysis: What's missing? (Direction, height/spin, feel, gapping, short game)
- Measurement/Testing: Fit for specs (weight, flex, profile, length, lie, grip size), compare 2-3 setups.
- Implementation: Select suitable used models – or carry out modifications (handle, loft/lie, possibly re-shaft).

FAQ
First fitting, or first buying used?
Ideally, first a compact fitting , then specifically search for used models with suitable specs.
Is it possible to modify used rackets afterwards?
Yes: Swap grips , adjust loft/lie (on many irons/wedges), adjust hosel/weights ; re-shaft is often possible – check compatibility.
What if the brand/series is no longer current?
No problem: Head design and specifications are crucial. Many proven series continue to work perfectly.
How do I make a fair comparison – fitted racket vs. used model?
Ideally, use the same head category (e.g., game improvement irons), similar lofts, close shaft weights and a suitable grip size – then evaluate the feel and shot pattern.
